North American Lakes and Waterways represent the world's largest supply of
fresh water. Unfortunately, this precious resource is so polluted that it
is in danger of being permanently lost. Industrial, agricultural and municipal wastes have all played roles in their demise. The Twentieth Century had limited regard for the health of our waterways and for decades we assumed the massive volume of water could absorb the phosphate based runoff from our chemical intensive lifestyle. We must all face the reality that this ecosystem is close to the point of no return. Our waterways can no longer cope with the huge quantities of pollutants being poured into them. |
